The Energy Transition (ET) Conference 2023
28 August 2023, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Kuala Lumpur
ZEVA was privileged to be invited as one of the panellist in Energy Transition Conference 2023 28-29 October 2023. ZEVA was represented by the President, Mr Wan Ahmad Zam Zam Wan Abd Wahab in the dialogue titled, “Addressing Challenges Of Early Electric Vehicle Adopters in Malaysia”. Alongside with ZEVA was Mr Lee Yuen How, President of Persatuan Industri Pengecas EV, Mr Paul Tan, the leading auto journalist at www.paultan.org and Mr Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Mobiltiy Sdn Bhd.
The conference itself was another milestone in Malaysia EV industry as the Prime Minister has launched the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). The roadmap is critical in supporting the Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 (where Malaysia aspires to net zero emissions by 2050) and the National Energy Policy (DTN) launched in September 2022 with aspirations to become a low carbon nation in 2040.
ZEVA was also engaged during the write up of the NETR where we advocated for the deadline of 100% Battery EV in Malaysia new automotive sales. This agenda however was not taken fully in the document by the government and ZEVA will continue to play its critical role to advocate for such.
The president also spoke about the ballooned up fuel subsidy which is not sustainable by the country and how can the restructuring of the fuel subsidy can help spur the low carbon economy in the country.
It was indeed the most popular breakout sessions during the conference.
